Pheasant escaped
« on: April 01, 2011, 16:32 »
About an hour ago I was filling up all the pheasants water and food. I did everything like closing the door, and made all the pheasants go down to the other end of the pen (the pens open at the top, before opening the pens and fiddling around with the food.

Well I got to the Manchunian Pheasants and opened the pen when they were all away from the door, started to put food in and a female flew up and out...straight out of the open door :O. The wind must have blown it open.

I am a bit shocked that she flew off and annoyed that the door opened :(. What happens now. Will she come back in for her man pheasant...or is it a lost cause and she will go off with the handsome ringneck that lives in our field.  :(
When the wolf lays with the lamb, I fear for us all

I don't know anything about pheasants (apart from their liking of wandering across roads just as I'm approaching) but hope you get her back.  :(

Have you tried getting the other side of her and gently walking her back toward home ?
If not have a walk around the field tonight with a powerful torch you may be able to locate her roosting and bait a trap for first light tomorrow.
There is a slim chance of catching her with a fish landing net if she is roosting low.

We can see her, she is still on our land, meandering down towards our garden. We will keep an eye out and the dogs in. Hopefully she will go back to her man, who is calling for her :)

Trouble is, she can fly. Tomorrow, they all have their wings clipped ¬.¬
