SOUR CROP!
« on: March 21, 2011, 13:36 »
Hello All, I found this morning, that  my Molly has developed Sour Crop. So followed advice
and held her"sort of" upside down, a struggle on your own and to rub the crop. About 1/2 pint sour fluid drained away. I believe I must repeat this again over a couple of days. There is still some fluid left inside, but thought we had put ourselves through enough for one morning. So, she is back in the run for now,but not looking to happy.
Am I doing things ok ? and should I feed her as normal?
Any HELP would be much welcomed.

Hi there
I had the same problem with one of mine last week. I put her in a separate pen,  did the upside down thing twice a day, mixed a little natural yogurt in with her pellets and put a small amount of cider vinegar in her water. After a couple of days she was much better and now is back with the others. Hope this helps.

It would be best to ask the vet to prescribe an antifungal for her.

But start off now by giving her a little bio yogurt and put some Apple Cider Vinegar in her water.  This will all work against the fungal infection.

Thanks for the advice. I will get the yogurt, but have no cider vinigar yet. So will try garlic crushed.
She is not very good and just mopes about and keeps doing swollowing motions and is not interested in feeding or drinking.
So I put her in large cage in shed for now.
Is this best?

Don't forget the anti-fungals from the vet.

Empty out her crop regularly if you can.  It might encourage her to drink - put some ordinary vinegar in the water if you have no apple cider vinegar.

Thank you Aunt Sally, She had no  fluid in her crop last night, but I did feel a hard lump inside, so I am thinking it may be an  impacted crop. She did eat and drink and shows a slight improvement. Will it be ok to try some olive oil and a massage as well as the yogurt mix?

Yes, it should be fine if you can get some oil into her crop and massage the lump until it softens.

Sour crop if often caused by an impaction of coarse food.
