Pull out tray.

Hi I have a chicken coop with a pull out tray that is linedwith a kind of metalic covering. What bedding could I put on to this, I am using wood shavings at the mo but its difficult to pull out to clean it as the shavings prevent me from doing this, thought about just using news paper but they just scratch it up. Any ideas??

I also had trouble with the tray pulling out. I bought my coop off e-bay last year. Sat down and redesigned the front of the coup and have now taken the door and panel away and replaced them with one large panel. The new panel has two dowel at the bottom that locate into drilled holes and bolts at the top to secure shut. I can now lift the tray out and clean the coop in minutes. Would post pictures if I knew how
