Jack Frost and onion sets
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:06 »
Wonder if anyone can help. I put in 3 rows of onion sets yesterday as the weather was almost summer like, and forecast similar all week!! hurrah. However i knew the frosts would still come but decided to plant anyway as most of the Site have also put theirs in. I didnt bother with a cloche. The expected frost came with a vengance last night (-3) and i was worried that it may have killed the sets off. Will the sets survive a frost of that degree?

An overnight frost won't hurt. They wouldn't appreciate a prolonged cold snap, though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Phew, thats ok then thanks for the reply, however i am certain we will have more frosts this week, inc. tonight. Should i cover them with a cloche?

Personally I never bother.

Don't have enough cloches anyway!

You're welcome. When I say I don't have enough cloches - I don't actually have one!
