What is a good onion set for flavour and keeping ?
« on: March 08, 2011, 09:50 »
Just in case my seedlings dont come to much I thought I would get some sets but over the last couple of years I have not had too much success with sets either.

Any advice most welcome !

I found "Centurion" excellect. Nice size onions, good storers and not flat at the bottom like some, so easy to peel.

Here's a piccie of some of mine:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Red Baron and Sturon do well and keep well in my experience.

I used sturon sets last year. Planted 122, and harvested 120. They kept OK and lasted through Christmas. I'll be planting sturon again in a couple of weeks.

Turbo was very popular last year oop our way, I judge a good onion by how quick it makes me cry and the were very fast, turbo charged in fact  :tongue2:
Stored well too.
