gravel board equivalent

hiya guys

im looking to board up my growing beds so can put down some wood chip. priced it up @ b and q and would cost arm and leg to buy the proper gravel boards

what else could i use instead?

Re-claimed decking boards ? we got ours from someone who was taking them up and throwing them ! we also bought a few from our local recliam yard they were pretty cheap too

it would only be used for the paths rather than mulch or near where things are planted

gravel boards are as cheap as chips at scats/ mole valley farmers timber yards. i got mine from scats just over £4 per length (3.6m) i've made 5 huge beds for less than £60.

We get old scaffolding boards at £1 for a ten foot board. We have to order at least 50 at a time but get free delivery.
Scaffold co's have to replace the boards when they get to 3 yrs old for insurance purposes.

That's about the right price. :) Most builders merchants will have them for this sort of price.

They might cost a lot more at been and queued.... ::)

I'm a little worried as I have just spread a lyaer about 1-2" deep of wood chips around our balckberry bushes and currant buishes - will this be ok????? :(
