And perhaps mulch them with something, to help reduce evaporation of your precious water, like weed control fabric or somesuch???

I grew tomatoes in pots last year (newbie in france, the neighbour kept on at me to get them in the ground)   I was forever watering them.  The cherry toms did fine, but the normal ones mostly split....we had a lot of rain in August which didn't help.

I planted several cherry toms this year in the ground, but lost them all to blight

Hi chrissie B
Try growing your toms with marigolds once read somewhere that in south america they are considered sacred due to them stoping eel worm on their potatoes.

No, root secretions also discourage eelworm and the like.  Best is apparently tagetes minuta which grows to about 6ft.  I don't recomend it for Greece since it will probably manage to set seed & become a noxious weed itself.

they were in plastic tubs 30cms across.  also had a couple of large troughs, which were terracotta......they dried out in no time.
I grew them with marigolds.  the cherry toms were more successful
