not now ur picked em mate , but next year use some car grease around the stem base to stop em getting in,.some times they eat a bit of the corn , you can put some round the bases now to stop any more climbing up  couple inches smeared around is fine . dont compost taht bit when you come to chop em down
still alive /............

I hate earwigs ...

... I don't know why ... they just give me the shivers!!

Last year I wrapped my immature sweetcorn in fleece and then wound with soft string and then put the whole lot inside a plastic bottle (one that I'd sliced open obviously and then taped up again).

But that was to keep the flippin mice at bay!!

Oh my god... I had the corn last night and I have never tasted such glorious corn before. I must grow a whole field of the stuff next year. I am amazed at how crisp, juicy and sweet they were.. and that is after a bad season with rain and no sun... no need to smother them in butter to give them some taste.. 90 sec in a microwave and that is what I call a DING dinner :)

I had some sweetcorn as well last nigh SG, but from my fruit&veg box, and it was a treat. My own are only just beginning to flower - when I open up the leaves I can see the tops of them   Still no signs of corn ears though. Fingers crossed they'll bear.....

My preferred cooking method for corn ...
... is to strip the cobs of all the leaves and stringy bits and to soak in water for about an hour.  Then wrap foil around the cob, seal one end, pour in a tablespoon of water, seal t'other end and pop on the barbie for about 15/20 mins, turning every now and then.

... yep you can do that, but the sugar content in the corn means they can scorch and the kernels dry out a bit ... try my way, tis good I promise ...  :D

You are all making my mouth water. I plan to grow some next year when the plot is sorted a bit more. My neighbours at the allotments have all got them growing and I just look at them longingly.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.
