What can I say?.......never tasted anything so lovely, sweet, firm and jucy, just wish I planted more.

Definitely going to grow again next year.

They were Swift courtesy of Mr F. started off in greenhouse and planted out in May.  Clay soil but enriched with well rotted farm manure.

No earwigs in the one we tried tonight, but have seen them in one of the ears; will bear in mind Munty's grease tip next year.

Ate our first ones yesterday.  They were org@sm!c.

Variety - Sunrise, you could put cream on them and serve them for desert

Like strawberries and asparagus, the supermarket sweetcorn bears no resemblance to local / GYO produce. Thats why we never buy these things out of season or from the supermarket.

I'm having trouble knowing when to pick it, I know about using your finger nail to see what comes out, but by pulling the cob apart aren't you leaving it vulnerable to pests etc. or am I
a)missing something (apart from brain cells) or
b) worrying too much?

Just peel back at the top of the cob.  Pop a curnel with your fingernail.  Watery is under ripe.  Milky is ready.  Creamy is going too far.  Cover the leaves back over as much as possible. :D

I just got impatient, so picked the biggest and it was fine, you can actually feel the kernels through the leaves. On subsequent pickings I've just gone for the largest, but having a good feel seems to be more accurate than just looking.
