Aquadulce Broad Beans How Deep In Modules?
« on: February 08, 2011, 16:27 »
Hi All,
I want to get some broad beans off now in modules, the soils just been dug over where they are going, anyone else start them off in modules?
If you do, how deep do you plant them because my modules are sort of standard depth like a seed tray so about 2" and the packet says, you guessed it, plant 2" deep.
Any experience gained appreciated as I have never grown them before.

Ta,

Wayne.
Cheers,

Wayne.

I've started mine of in 9cm pots, which are about twice as deep as the modules ;)

I start mine off on moist kitchen paper until they "chit" and the root appears, then I make a shallow hole in the compost and pot it in root-first - so it basically doesn't have to push the seed out much, and the root can easily find its way down.

I also get 100% that way, with no gaps.

But it is some extra "faff"

Potted my aquadulce this morning as above, about a third of the seed has not chitted (yet) but only 2 seeds out of the packet were binned.
