how old are the chicks?  I have only ever shown the chicks where their food and water is for the first hour or so.  I put an egg tray down, spread chick crumbs over it then place a few chicks on top of it.

then I put a few chicks around the drinkers.  I use the little green and white mushroom drinkers for a few chicks.  They soon get the hint, and no they never seem to sleep.  Just as a few try to doze off, another one decides he wants to be the opposit side of the bunch and runs over the top of them all!!!!
