I bought a bag of 3kg Maris pipers from wilkos over week ago as i was very happy with them last yr. Today i went and bought another bag which i will need about 3/4 of. When i opened this new bag i noticed the spuds a very small infact compared to the bag bought last week the are all approx half size if not less.

Never noticed this so obviously before, so just how , if any, does the size of your set affect the finished product?

I really don't think it makes much difference. I'd personally choose smaller ones as you will get more seed potato per bag.
The potato only gets the chits/plant going until it sets out roots... and at that point, its in the lap of the fertility of your soil that will most effect yield

mine are smaller than last years  as well ,,   but as above  you do get more spuds per bag and i got 2 3kg bags for a fiver
