Just rotovated   the remaining area of the lottie. Any suggestion on what I could stick in now? I know its a bit late, but i was thinking beetroot from seed, spuds maybe?

I planted Pak Choi and Pe Tsai (Chinese Cabbage) a couple of weeks ago, and have just planted Rapini (Broccoli Raab) which will be ready for harvest in 40 days. All recommended for July/August sowing.

salads , of any sort ya likes wil still do well carrots can still go in autumn king ,chanteney any types even socalled early varieties ,they dont know what month it is   leeks can still go as can spring brocoli cauliflowers etc

Went to the garden centre yesterday and they are selling off seeds at half price. I bought some carrot seeds that can be sown now and some brocolli, sprouts and leek seeds with good sow-by dates on (2009) for next year

You can also grow second cropping potatoes if you live in a warm area. Most of the big seed companies are now selling them - I got mine from Alan Romans

yes, spuds for sure.    Stocking up on seeds is a great idea.

would there be any advantage in starting leeks, lettuce in trays in the greenhouse for planting this summer, or would you sow straight onto the ground?

I'm going to sow a few more salads this weekend, plus more beetroot.

I'm sure I've heard or read somewhere that beetroot is better sown in individual cells to ensure good root production.

I hope not as I haven't done this with my last two sowings!

Can't see it myself since one beetroot seed produces multiple seedlings (unless you are planting a monogerm variety)

well, i'm sprouting any perennial kitchen herbs I can get me mitts on. Onions are in their seed trays. So are the lettuce. |The bit that im'm not growing stuff on, I'm planting mustard.

can you plant garlic cloves now? i imagine so as they're not unlike leeks. if i planted now when would i expect to pull them?

also, does anyone know where to get hold of elephant garlic cloves fairly cheaply?

so far i've started off 'all the year round' lettuce in a tray in greenhouse, also leeks seeds, (lyon 2 prizetaker).  but these say on the packet to sow from feb to may, will they still be ok or should i get a variety specially for sowing this time of year?

might put in a few more carrots (straight into ground) and maybe the garlic,  (i've got about a 12 ' square piece of ground left)
