First green shoots of Spring?
« on: January 14, 2011, 21:35 »
Shallots planted early November are showing green shoots at last. First snowdrops in bud.

Mind you we have been up to 14 degrees today.

I'm afraid it doesn't mean spring is anywhere near.  There's a lot more winter to come yet!

Very true, Aunt Sally  :(

However, it is always good to see that first bit of green telling you your precious plants are fighting on in spite of everything.

I was happily surprised by finding new shoots on my cutting celery this morning  :)

Yesterday was a real spring day on the allotment with a gentle breeze and sunshine. Today it's blowing a gale and raining though only the gale is on the forecast.  If any green shoots appear here yesterday they will be wondering why on earth they bothered today.

We've got the torrential rain and the gales. Pots and containers strewn all over the garden and anything that was growing is now cowering close to the soil. On the plus side it's no longer frosty. According to the forecast the freeze is set to come back next week. :(

Some of the perennial climbers (I know gardening, not GYO) such as hydrangea and honeysuckle are throwing out buds all over the place. Along with many humans, I'm assuming they think the winter is over.
