There was a big smear of blood on Gracie's egg this morning.  She usually lays cream eggs but this one was white.  She seems ok apart from that and is eating and drinking well.  They have layer pellets, oystershell, grit, Spring greens with a handful of corn at night. Has anybody any idea what could be wrong?

Has she got any cuts around her vent area?  Or she may have just burst a blood vessel possibly, and thats why there is blood on the outside?
Dont know if this will help, just possibly some ideas

I agree it will most prob be a small tear in a blood vessel.
As long as she's eating etc i wouldnt worry.

The OH was over my shoulder reading this and said "What do you expect passing eggs each day" i could not respond

Have just checked her over and no swelling or blood (she laid quietly on her back and let me do this, bless!) that I can see.  Egg wasnt any bigger than normal so hopefully it's just a 1 off.

Ha ha H 4 kids so I know what you mean but they been laying for 4 months (in between the broody times) and this hasnt happened before.

Thanks everyone for your support.  This is the best site ever for that.  Funny Cilla just laid the biggest egg we've ever had (still a banty egg but big for my girls).
