Has your outdoor parsley survived the weather?
« on: January 05, 2011, 15:13 »
Had a peek at my flat-leaved parsley this morning and it's in a pretty sorry state; it was grown last summer and of course will flower this year and need replacing but I usually expect some more pickings in spring before that happens.

Never seen it so far gone at this stage of winter, and I'm wondering whether the curly-leaf version which I used to grow might have been a bit more hardy.

How is your outdoor parsley doing this winter?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Mine is never any good by the time we are going into the autumn. I always sow fresh parsley and coriander in April. :) Even my sage is looking very sorry after having all that snow lying on it.  The thyme looks OK, although I haven't used any recently to taste it. :)

My curly parsley is looking surprisngly chipper, and I have a few sprigs of mint and some marjoram. I buy a pot of parsley in the supermarket and after using it, split the seedlings into several pots. I've never had much luck from seed, by the time it gets going it is nearly the end of summer! This way I get fresh parsley early.

Curly parsley is OK, look very sorry for itself after the frosts, but it's picking up.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My flat leaf parsley came through last winter and I was using it before I resowed in summer.
I hope this lot will do the same, It does look sorry for itself, but no worse than last year ;)

I've kept my parsley in a pot on the kitchen window sill and it's starting to get little light brown flecks on the leaves.
Is this normal, or is it a disease of some sort?

mine was in the unheated polytunnel so felt the very low temps but was not wet and soggy and it is fine.
