Well they have, but I don't see what's wrong.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I was thinking more along the lines of Palm Sunday MoS not the Nativity.

2011 will be my first full growing year, I played about abit in 2010, but started too late to do much.

I'm more excited about starting the growing season, than getting Christmas pressies :tongue2: unless of course santa decides to drop a few raised beds down the chimney.

I inherited alot of gardening things, tools, trays & a bag full of seeds, inside I found a packet of Buntons Showstopper onions, which recommend sowing inside late december for exhibition sized onions, not really worried about showing them, but growing monster onions will be great fun.

So today I organised the seed tray, filled with new seed compost & have placed on a warm windowsill, so that the soil is ready for Christmas day.  Then this year I get to start my new Christmas tradition, after lunch is eaten & cleared away, I will pour a nice big glass of wine & sow my onions  :D

Does anyone else have any grow your own Christmas traditions?
Did you?

mERry Christmas EVerYone!

I also have plans on sowing "The Kelsae" tommorrow, and will be starting a seperate thread concerning another point on this subject.

Going by the seed packet, the seed should be sown on boxing day traditionally, which is what im gonna try. It does also say that the temp should be between 15 and 20 degrees, so a heated greenhouse is essential.
While the ground is still covered in snow its nice to have something going on although i dont think ill bother overwintering onions, or peas as i have this year, its just so much hassle with all this white stuff!

I've said many times that as much as I like peas, overwintering them is too much hassle to get them a couple of weeks earlier.

I did  three generations of us, my dad, me & my three year old son, will just have to wait & see how they grow, it was lovely to do some 'growing' on Christmas day
New to gardening & growing my own, its a very steep learning curve!

If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Its bad isnt it, I  think this early cold weather has everyone looking forward to the spring.

I'm changing my conservatory over from a toy storage/dumping ground to a nice big heated greenhouse & I am counting the days until i'm allowed to get Christmas back into the loft & start building my shelves.
