the chickens I first wanted was the speckled sussex but only managed to get one this year when Cara needed a home for her one. She is lovely, gentle, decent layer and very pretty  :D

It's a "Speckled Sussex" which is a pure breed Sussex variety, a "Speckledy" is a completely diferent hybrid hen derived from a Maran.   SS are lovely chx as are Sussex generally.

I acquired a young Speckled Sussex a few weeks ago having fallen in love with them when I saw some for sale at a local show.
She's too young to lay yet but is becoming quite a large girl and seems to have a nice steady nature.  I just love her spotty markings and we just had to call her Dot (Dorothy is her Sunday name).

Yes that's the one HF, silly me  I've got a Speckledy just like that too :D

You know me so well Joyfull  I'd gone into one of the coops to look at 4 young poots that had been returned (because of a relationship breakdown) 2hens, 2 cockerels and there were the Speckled Sussex :D

Think I may just have to go and get those 2 hen poots before they get snaffled by someone :D

Me too!! The present one is set aside for my OH's flowers and shrubs. She'd go bananas if I let chickens loose in it.  :(

Ever thought of Sablepoots Learner, their feathery little feet don't mess the flowers up :D
