A lovely gesture Tosca, shame when these acts of kindness go wrong. ::)

More Whisky has let me down , i was sure i would read that he had been making his porridge more festive with a splash of whisky. :)

I think i will try it. :)

Yuk lol i like nothing to spoil my whisky. But let me know!

Asked OH to get me some value oats when he went to the supermarket once, to make porridge and flapjacks, and because he thinks I should have the best of everything he bought Special Organic Jumbo oats....yuk! Bless him. I hate big oats for porridge cos it feels lumpy, and for flapjacks they don't soak up the butter/syrup the same, so I had to whizz them up in the processor.

You have to cook large oats more  slowly but worth the effort imo.

Ive had my oats today
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I buy the oats so simple stuff to eat at work and it comes in all sorts of flavours but I do prefer the golden syrup one  :D

Snap
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I like golden syrup or a splash of evaporated milk on mine, other half likes honey on his, sometimes instead of the syrup or honey we add a few raspberries, blackberries or blueberries taken from the freezer and thawed overnight in the fridge.

If we're being barbaric about porridge and are rejecting the trinity of water/oats/salt (and I can feel my sporran rising!)

Then:

Stir in some crunchy peanut butter.

Pre heat some coconut/dried fruits/nuts/sugar in some milk and stir this into a mily/cream porridge to make a sort of Egyptian/Scottish (Om Ali/Porridge) 'fusion food breakfast'.

Make Portuguese 'ovos moles' (egg yolks and sugar syrup) and swirl this into the porridge.

Use your imagination!

SS

OK SS, if you are having trouble with your sporran rising you should get yourself out in that snow and have a quick highland fling, methinks that'll sort the problem!

Good heavens, didn't realise we had so many porridge afficionados.
Thanks for all the replies, seems evaporated milk is very popular, so must try that and will try all your other suggestions.

Mum - I know syrup is not so healthy but as you say, it's soooo moreish; licking the spoon brings back memories of childhood.

joyfull - I used to buy oats so simple but then realised that I could make my own almost as quickly and cheaper with oats and milk (I do use the microwave) and there's none of the additives.

aelf - never thought of jam. Used to add jam to custard and semolina (yes, I still like it, and sago and tapioca) so I may give it a try.

morewhisky - my dad was from the Orkneys and he used to have the traditional salt. As a kid I tried to emulate him, but it is an acquired taste. He also used to put sugar on lettuce.

Re spoiling whisky. I once gave my brother a bottle of single malt for Christmas. When I asked him how he liked it he said it was too harsh for him so he drank it with Coke....Aaaarrrggghhh......that was the last bottle he had from me!

I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.
