You'll see them in seed catalogues by now, but its too early for the shops.

Earliest December for catalogues, January/ February for shops!!!
It all depends what you put into the ground, to what you get out

My lotty association shop's deadline for spud orders was this weekend.

We get the spuds into the shop in, I think, early Feb (it was late this spring owing to the cold weather), and there are always a few popular varieties available for those who didn't place specific orders.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If you have your seed potatoes by January that is normally soon enough. Believe it or not but March is normally the busiest time as people just buy them to plant straight away.

Still arguing with myself over varieties but an order will be winging its way to Iain very shortly.

Thanks Solway Cropper but it could take some time to decide as I have so many varieties.

Cooperman welcome to my world when you start dreaming about spuds. Serious frost here today.

I buy my seed potatoes ("tatties" here) from a highly recommended merchant in Orkney. I have had their potato catalogue for a week and phoned my order through yesterday. I was the first order to go into their book for the new season; so keen am I.
If I can grow things in Shetland, then you can certainly grow things where you are!

LOL me too... i ordered a few weeks ago after weeks of deliberating over varieties! :-)
But you don't need to start chitting until Jan at the earliest, so plenty of time yet. I wouldnt expect garden centres and shops to start stocking them until next year.

Some garden centres want them next week!!!

They want them so that they can have them during the Christmas holiday period.

I think it will be another nightmare year for delivering potatoes. :(

Glad you all have made up your minds about the varieties you are growing :)
