Layers pellet prices.
« on: November 18, 2010, 19:46 »

Could all chicken keepers please let me know what they are currently paying for, for a 25kg bag of layers pellets please?

I used to be paying £6.70 ish at a pet shop down the road from me, but have found an even cheaper shop that's even closer to me! (£5.20 a Bag)!!

Feel bit of a mug now  :( for not shopping around.

Make sure it's a good brand.  There is a lot of rubbish out on the market too.

Sorry, my mistake,   :( They're Farmgate pellets and it's only a 20kg bag NOT 25kg.

Still, £5.20 though........

Check that the date has at least 2-3 months to run if not don't by them.

When we bought Farmgate it was £5.56 a bag, but they kept putting the price up, and now we use Bearts we pay about £5.50 a bag, but then we buy it by the tonne, so £5.20 is a bargain price!

Afraid so, we rear table birds, turkeys and hybrid egg layers, so need to buy in bigger quantities.

£10.35 for organic is very very good, I buy Allen and Page organic and it's over £14 a sack.

Update.
I found out on Friday that the A&P organic layers has gone up to over £15 a bag .
I am now trialing Garvo (started today - Sunday and will continue for a month then do a month of Fancy Feeds as a trial) to see which I and the chickens prefer. My Garvo cost me £9.25 a sack. Fancy Feeds are £7 somthing a sack - just need to track down a supplier in my area  :). I do like the sound of the Fancy Feeds breeders as that has a probiotic included - good for gut problems.

Farmgate layers pellets or mash, £7.70. Just gone up last month, was £7.40 for about the last two years, £6.70 before that. This seems dearer than some, but haulage at over £40.00/tonne atm should be factored in to a remote location such as this.
