I have a garden roughly 5m x 35m but is mainly fruit trees, "lawn" and 3 greenhouses (2 are 8x6ft and 1 is 6x4ft)  .  Total area: 175sq m.  Despite the large growing space, the garden is surrounded by neighbours trees/tall privet hedges/greenhouses and not great for growing veg.

Full size plot 360sq m

Shared plot of which I cultivate 140sq m.

I've held on to the shared plot while getting the big plot sorted - it has a lot of problems due to its location (bottom of a hill so can get flooded especially during very wet seasons - I still have strong memories of wading ankle deep in water in July 2007 soon after I took it on) and compacted heavy clay/riddled with marestail and bramble but has been great for summer crops such as squashes, runner beans & sweetcorn and fruit bushes (blueberry, red/white/blackcurrant and gooseberries).  It takes time and money to make improvements such as digging in sharp sand, compost and manure as well as building raised beds and clearing the marestail, but gradually I'm cultivating other crops as and when the soil is improved especially root veg - about 75% of the plot is now being fully utilised.  My friend and I have both decided to give up the shared plot by spring 2012
