hullo all!  just a quick question - does anyone own a spring feeder, and if so, how do they work?  seen them for sale in lots of places but unssure of their function.

I've never tried one myself but they are a spring that fits into a hole drilled in the base of a plastic barrel (or other container) which you then suspend above the ground. The barrel is filled with grain or pellets.  The chickens peck at the spring and the feed falls to the ground in such small quantity that there is little waste and rodents are not attracted to spilt feed either.
