'Confidential' paper
« on: October 24, 2010, 16:34 »
I have a carrier bag full of paper (mostly old bills/private stuff) I don't want to put in the recycling bin. I have no where to burn them and can't be bothered buying another shredder as I've already broke two. Would it be safe for me to use this paper in the bottom of my raised bed? I'm getting it set up next week and preparing what is going in it. Do you think the worms would eat it all up? I'm putting a lot of worms in. Has anyone else buried paper they didn't want to recycle?

I always shred mine first and then compost it  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If you have broken two shredders, as some replies have not read.  ::) Yes you can bury your bills in the bottom of your veggie beds.  Mix well with soil then more soil on top.  The worms may read the contents, but I'm sure will will not tell anyone! Cheers,   Tony.

I would probably rip them up first, it will help them decompose quicker and if they perhaps get dug up, only pieces will be found

What if they were soaked in comfrey or nettle tea, would that also help them to degrade faster and add nutrients to the soil?

I think that would be a waste of the tea.

It won't improve the degradation rate over plain water, and any nutrients would leach out over winter.  It's better to apply the liquid when plants are available to make use of it.
