I have decided to take the plunge after lots of thought and build raised beds on my half allotment.
I have already built 2 using tanalised new sleeper -  beds are 8ft long, 4 ft wide.

This week, a relative of mine rang to tell me that he could get me enough 4ft creosoted railway sleepers to finish the job (40+ sleepers).
I've read a few articles about the reasons why the creosote was banned. With this in line, I was going to line them in plastic first. Has anyone got any opinions on this?

ps - the sleepers are free which is a rarety these days

I wouldn't use them near food plants. 

Flowers yes but not food.

Like Aunty, I wouldn't use them anywhere near my veg and lining with plastic would only provide a habitat for slugs and other nasties.  If they are used sleepers then much more than creosote has gone into them over the years.
