Solent Wight - can anyone buy locally
« on: September 21, 2010, 16:54 »
Hi.

I'm surprised at the high cost of buying Solent Wight on the internet and I can't see it yet in the shops.

Perhaps it's a bit early but I'm wondering if anyone expects to be able to buy this variety 'down the garden centre' and whether it would be cheaper. At least it would avoid postage costs - total of £9.70 from Unwins for example .

Cheers.

It's £2 a bulb in the garlic shop at the Isle of white, but not sure how much on their internet site and they are selling it now  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Yes, you can buy garlic from Homebase, B&Q, Wyevale, most places with a garden centre. From places like Homebase you won't get so much choice of variety, but they normally do have Solent Wight. Specialist garden centres like Wyevale will give you a bigger choice. They may not have garlic in quite yet, but if not they will have it in soon.

Don't know where in East Devon you live but you can get them in Fermoys (Ipplepen) or Jacks Patch (Bishopsteignton)!!!

Just read your later message, Fermoys!!!

It all depends what you put into the ground, to what you get out

Thanks everyone.

I'll look out for it locally now.

isis: still annoyed by that P&P charge but overall it seems a good price. I may go with that pack jobbie in the end.

Coach: sorry, I'm not with you. - "Just read your later message, Fermoys!!!"

Thanks for clarifying joyful.

I think I'll call in to Fermoys - I'll be passing there on Saturday.
