Assume for a moment that I have actually managed to fill my black dalek and it is now full of lovely compost (it is quite full). I guestimate that it holds about 1 cubic yard of compost. How many sq yards of my lotty ground could this amount be effectivley used on?

Are you asking what area 1 cubic yard would cover or how much you should use?

A cubic yard is 36 X 36 X 36 inches, so if you go for 2 inches deep it will cover an area of 18 square yards, three inches deep 12 square yards, 4 inches deep 9 square yards (had enough yet; I have!) 

(Don't think anything less than about 3" is likely to be of much benefit unless your soil is already quite rich in organic matter.)

Yeah it has  but thats why i got it cheap
