when's the best time to plant gooseberry bushes?

when's the best time to plant gooseberry bushes?

I was a little puzzled to see that T&M despatch them from Nov to Apr. I thought it was better to plant a little earlier, Sept to Oct, so they can settle in before the cold weather hits.

T&M are probably offering bare root plants and those have a definate season from Nov through to the spring.  April seems a bit late it's usually Nov-Feb, March at the very latest.

New season potted plants should be hitting the garden centres about now.  We got a big drop at work this week and you can plant those straight away  :)  Rootwrap or bareroot will follow into garden centres late Oct/early Nov if you want the cheaper option.

Actually, when I looked in my local Wyevale today I discovered that their potted plants are cheaper than T&M bare root plants. Sadly they only had one variety in as yet and I wanted an assortment, but maybe they'll get more later on.
