egs with no shell
« on: August 23, 2010, 13:05 »
My 6 ex-bats are regularly laying 5 eggs a day and every few days I get a 6th one which has aboslutely no shell at all.  I assume that it is the same chicken every time and that it is not laying in between but I am only guessing.
Should I be worried?
As I don't know which hen has the problem, can I treat them all with a cure?
If not, how can I identify the poorly hen?

Hi there I too have rescue hens and one of them was laying a softie, she did this for about 2 1/2 weeks then slowly there was a really thin shell which would break as soon as you touched it, then she started to lay normally, then another of them laid a softie but she was much quicker to return to normal, as long as they have access to oyster grit and greens to help absorb the calcium I wouldn't worry too much, I think its just one of those things. :)
