My garden backs onto a big field and a canal, as a result, I keep getting bindweed (think thats what its called, climber with white trumpet flowers) and blackberry brambles popping up all over the place. I've only been in this house since May, so I didnt know what to expect with the garden, but I think it's going to take some major upkeep.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can stop, or at least minimise the growth of this pains up the bum. Fankoooo

Glyphosate weedkillers are ok but you will have the problem of new growth coming in each year from the field and canal. I would suggest digging down and putting some sort of barrier between you and the field/canal, such as heavy duty plastic or deep concrete.

Please be very careful with the chemicals that you use if there is any chance they could get in to the canal water...  if the fish numbers decline the bird numbers decline, etc.
