No dig and manure
« on: August 16, 2010, 13:05 »
I've got the chooks on what will be our veg plot; bad back, can't dig and we're planning to use raised beds for the same reason, as we can get endless amounts of manure (horse country round here) could we spread it directly onto the plot and cover it this winter to reduce leaching?  or is it best to build the raised beds and then put the manure in still covering it?
May this day be blessed with gifts, understanding and friends.  Merlin 2001-2012 Pandora 2001-2013 xxx

either, but I suppose it depends on your order of work. It will be fine spread on the plot and left over winter. If it's a big area you can't really cover it all so you could fork it in if you wished but I wouldn't as I have a dodgy back too  :D  The rains will wash the nutrients in to some exent so I wouldn't worry. As you say you can get some more

You don't need muck where you're planning to grow parsnips and carrots  :)
