Long shot - Can anyone identify this mushroom?
« on: August 13, 2010, 17:34 »

I've just laid a new lawn in the back garden and it's coming along nicely.  But this wet weather has got loads of mushrooms growing and I don't know what these are.  I'd so like to be able to pan fry them with some bacon that I'm making, but I guess it's a long shot...

Sorry, not sure of their real name, but we used to call them fairy rings.
I wouldnt pan fry them!- as if you are not sure dont touch is my fungi theory!

I know some species that cause fairy rings are edible, but others are not- and the ones you have dont look like the ones I have heard are edible!

good luck, and I hope someone else can provide better information!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

Sorry but I agree with mobilekat.  Don't eat them.

I'd be really reluctant to advise anyone from a photo alone, the consequences of which could be quite significant.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I had a local tree surgeon here a couple of weeks ago. He spotted some mushrooms on a piece of garden that I knew he knew has had mushroom compost on it in the past and he was certain they were edible. I offered him half of them and even found him a carrier bag to use to take some away. I notice he did not take any. Perhaps he was right but I have to admit to being wary of my own ignorance here.
Sorry I am wasting your time here but I am so sure that I am not very sure they are edible so personally I would be wary of anyone who said they were sure.
Ramble over.

Here we can take any suspicious mushrooms along to the local chemist/pharmacy for ID. Suppose that wouldn't work in UK??

Never eat mushrooms you dont know what they are. Did it once, thought they were eaters and had the most bizarre few hours of my life
Far too old for that kind of behaviour, not a pleasant experience at all!!!!

You took the words out of my mouth Catllar.  You can take suspicious mushrooms to the pharmacy in France, and they will check them, but they don't do it here.  Real pity :(
