That's a kind offer ciderman. Thanks!

Have pretty much decided that the concrete block base isn't going to work; the way the existing concrete hardstanding slopes means I would probably need a step-ladder to reach the door opening!

Am now considering using housebricks or concrete bricks to build a base of more modest height and compensate for the slopes, the concrete breeze blocks I already have will have to be used for building the staging which will probably be sometime on Christmas Eve!

You may yet get a PM!

Well, finally finished  it without suffering any life-threatening injuries; I proudly present my Homebase/Argos/Halls/Eden/Juliana 8X6 greenhouse!

As you can see from the first picture providing a raised but level base was not easy due to the hardstanding sloping in 2 directions; finished up with the frame chocked up level and square at each corner and cementing in concrete bricks to fill in underneath.

A few observations for those who may have bought or are contemplating buying one of these:

1) There is one opening window and it is mounted on a channel running the length of the roof ridge. You can have the window wherever you like and on either side but only if you thought to mount the roof ridge the right way round with respect to the channel. Not mentioned in the instructions so I had a 50/50 chance of being lucky.
Needless to say, I wasn’t!

2) The top glass panel in the door is retained in channels top and bottom so is impossible to insert without taking the top rail back off the door which of course you have already mounted on the frame!

3) The kit comes with draught excluder strips for the door for which I could see no mention at all of in the instructions. I thought it had a peel-off backing strip and spent a nice long time trying to peel it off before deciding it hadn't got one and was actually supposed to slide into a channel either side of the door! Guess what? There is no open end to the channel to feed the strip into without taking off the door, the pane of glass above the door, and the top of the door-frame!

4) 3 of the large panes of glass were broken on opening the pack; I have contacted Eden but up to now they don’t appear to be in a hurry to respond.

All in all, time-consuming because of the base, otherwise pretty straightforward and quite good fun.

Just the staging to design and build now…………………..!

well done, I have a second hand one off freecycle - how you fixed coming down to rebuild it with your newly gained knowledge you should be able to put it up for me in an afternoon  ;)

Thanks L&L (I think!)  :)

Joy: you are right in that if I had to build another one this week it would take less than half the time, but wrong to think I want to do another one anytime soon!  :tongue2:

Thanks Dave; I'm only a chimp and sometimes have trouble peeling a grape but I usually get there in the end!  :)

I'm impressed… and envious. I have no space for a greenhouse & they are banned on our lotties but I would love to have one. Yours looks lovely.

Although I had to email them again I have just had a phone call from them apologising for taking so long to reply (server problems!)

They have offered to either replace the damaged panes or reimburse me if I would rather fetch them myself from a local glazier (I would!)

Elsewhere on this site I have ranted about TalkTalk so I am delighted to be able to post about a company which has provided an excellent product and, more to the point, excellent service when a problem arose.  :)  :)
