what is this ???

it is supposed to be a melon given to me by my neighbour, but i thought melons were round. i am growing it in my geenhouse with cukes toms chillis and peppers. the bottom leaves die off quickly, but the top is still growing nice and healthy. any ideas.

Is it a 'wild cucumber' variety as grown in the Middle East?  You can buy them pickled in ethnic shops.  I have been trying to buy some seed, but cannot find any.
