I've got a lovely pair of melons!

I have Cantelope and Water Melons this year in a large cold frame, water ones are about 6" round and the Cantelope ones about 4" round, how do you know when they are ripe ?

I usually consider them ripe when the end opposite the stalk is slightly soft.
Old stockings are good to hang melons in too.
