Shall I???
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:09 »
Our chickens are currently being wormed and we're not eating the eggs. We get around 11 a day.

We have 2 chicks, 1 cockerel and 17 hens.

Is it okay to feed them the eggs? Otherwise they'd go straight in the bin.

Thanks

If you use flubenvet to worm them the eggs will be fine for you (and the hens) to eat.

what are you worming them with? I use flubenvet and still eat our eggs.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Yes we are using flubenvet, but are super careful and even though they say you can eat the eggs, we don't really want to. I know it's silly because they say it's safe, but just in case, we won't eat them.

That is of course, entirely up to you.

Anyway I suppose my question has sort of been answered. Thanks Aunt Sally

Am I right in thinking it is best to cook the eggs before feeding them back to the chooks?

Ideally they should have them cooked - boiled or scrambled, but I never give my girls and boys their own eggs back only their cooked shells.

Okay joyfull. Thanks sassy for bringing that up.

I suppose that's because you always eat the eggs and have none to spare

We eat a few, sell or give away some and hatch the others. Also it just seems a little bit canabalistic to me (even though I know it's not  :nowink:).

I often just splat the eggs on the ground and everything disappears in very short order (and I've never had a problem with egg eating).

That's good to hear as that's what I intended to do :) Thanks Casey

Then why did you ask if you'd already decided what you'd do ?  ::)
