Random radish
« on: August 01, 2010, 17:11 »
Hi everyone, did a search, but radish is a very common word!

Just pulled some radishes from the plot, all seeds from the same packet.. pulled 4 lovely round red ones, and one much larger very odd purple one  ::) Cleaned them all under the tap before we bought them home, and by the time we got home o/h had a blue hand..
anyone got any ideas what this random radish may be?

I don't know but your 'home' link links to a particularly annoying advert for washing products...

[Aah, are these the notorious ads that I usually miss due to having a plug-in on firefox as I've just changed computers?] *runs off to re-find that plug-in...

Purple plum?

I grew these this year and they were much more purple in colour than the online pictures  :D

Beetroot?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Definitely wasn't a beetroot yorkie - the leaves were definitely of the radish variety, and when cut into the flesh was white, and o/h confirmed it tasted like radish (personally can't stand the things but he loves them!)

These are more of a winter radish than ones you grow in the summer for salads. I really like them and grew some last year -- yummy  :)  Different shape to the usual red ones too.

I wonder? Should be easy to tell  :)

Don't think it was that one mum, but can't be sure When I pulled it, i just thought it was bigger and slightly darker than the rest, it wasn't until o/h washed it & bought it home that we realised it was a completely different colour... guess I need to be on the look-out for more randoms and take a photo before they disappear down o/h's throat!

I've had the very same thing happen. It was larger than a radish aswell, but definitely not a beetroot.]I got my seeds from a heritage seed saving group- i just figured it was some accidental cross breed? :)
