Just potting on some of my courgette plants that have grown from seen in the greehouse.

I meant to do it ages ago but weather has out me off !!

They seem really droopy to me - do I need to stake them out? I've got another dozen still to go and woudl be a shame if I wiped them all out!!

Also - are they okay out on the deck now or do I need to keep them sheltered still?

Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

oops....they look familiar <g>

When this has happened to me I've buried the stems, right up to the first set of leaves, in the best clay clods (or even tilth if I can find some) and starting praying.  Usually they grow nice roots from the stems and bingo....courgettes.

Not the best way to grow them of course, but saves just throwing them away.

I think they will come good but they are very large for transplanting.  They will perk up when root system can get enough water into the leaves.

I would not recommend planting deeper than the original planting depth.

A dozen????  I thought I was bad enough with 9!!!! lol

I had too many courgettes last year from 6 plants, now I've got extra    but I got them mixed up, so lucky I'm not going to save the seeds, on my biggest compost heap I've got 3 of the ordinary long green ones and 4 of the Italian tennis ball sized ones and 2 Italian ones growing in bags next to my little greenhouse.

The Italian ones are really sweet, like a cross between a cucumber and an apple!!! lol

I got given 2 courgette plants that looked a bit leggy like that.

I planted them both quite deep (just to the seed leaves which were a good 10cm above the ground when I got them) and the plants have started to crop now.  Go for minimal root disturbance -dig a hole the size of the pot first and however much deeper as needed.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone!
I've planted a few in pots on the deck.
A few in bigger pots that have gone back in the greenhouse.
Then a few have gone in the raised beds outside to fend for themselves.

This is year 1 of growing my own for me so all a bit of an experiment to figure it all out. Ive read loads of books but I never really learn that way - much rather get stuck in and learn as I go I guess!!

Bizarrely tonight I made courgettes with pasta. But they were shop bought!

Sliced the 'gettes up really thinly and fried gently in olive oil for ten mins, then whack in crushed garlic, a chopped chilli and a few chopped spring onions. Keep cooking for five more mins then chuck in a knob of butter along with a whatever pasta you fancy and a bit of the pasta water.

Serve up with plenty of black pepper and parmesan.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out.  I have had my courgettes in for some time now and have 3 to 5 fruits on each plant.  They are all about 4 to 6 inches long but the ends where the flowers were have gone brown and soggy.  When i cut into them they are brown all the way down the middle.  Does anyone know what Ive done wrong for this to happen.
There is however 1 fruit on each plant that has grown a lot bigger and is perfectly fine.

Whereabouts are you Rob?  could it be the weather again, to much water making them rot?  I noticed on the one I picked today, the beginnings of a bit of brown on the end where the flower was.

You are describing blossom end rot which can happen in cold/wet conditions

mine were like that for a while but I buried them up to the base of the bottom leaves and now we are starting to get courgettes as I think they have grown more roots from the stem
by the time i am old and grey i might be 100% organic
