Garlic harvest
« on: July 26, 2010, 01:04 »
Because we've been getting far too much rain here all June and July, I decided I'd best dig up my garlic today before it started to rot. For fall planted seed cloves that didn't poke their noses out until late spring, I'm gobsmacked at the size of heads I dug up, beautiful full things almost the size of tennis balls. Didn't expect them to get so large and now I have more than I can actually use.
While stepping around my huge kuri squash leaves taking over the garlic patch, I decided I really should dig up the little seed garlic plants all around my garden so I have a clear area to rotovate later. The seed garlic plants were growing in clusters, in about 5 areas and were bunched together, about 10 or more stalks per clump. I was even more gobsmacked to find what I thought would be tiny cloves or heads turn out to actually be heads almost as large as what I planted, or at least half that size! Now I really have far too much garlic so I'll be knocking at neighbours doors soon.  :D

Relax.
One can never have enough garlic, Trillium.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.
