Spuds
« on: July 21, 2010, 20:08 »
I put some maincrop spuds in a tub, they are growing really well but i wondered if i could harvest them know and have them as second earlies so i can  plant some Christmas spuds?
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

You can't turn a maincrop into a second early by deciding when you want to harvest them! The growing period is different.

Were you thinking of using them for the Christmas potatoes, because if so, that won't work either as they need a 60 day rest period before replanting in August, any to be planted so should have been lifted a month ago.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

No, i was going to order them from T&M as they have said its the last week, thanks for the advice DD, it was just a thought, thought they might just be a bit smaller maincrop's.

You can by all means harvest them now, but they won't be mature and they won't store.
