quail run base
« on: July 15, 2010, 21:32 »
hi, i have been busy DIY-ing, i have made my own incy have am now on day 6 with a dozen quail eggs, and have made a brooder for when/if any hatch and am now making the run (house is already complete) the plan was to put it on the grass but i read somewhere that quail should not be kept on grass so i was thinking of placing the run on the patio but will then have to put a flooring material down and was wondering what is best? the run will be covered/roofed on top but have weld mesh sides. thanks for any help/advise.

Hiya.... Just seen the post..... too busy looking after the quail to come on here too often :)

I can see no reason why the quail cant be kept on grass.... they like to eat it and other than that they might get damp at night, I cant see a problem.

Where did you see not to keep them on the grass???

The run would have to be moved every day though as they are messy * and will ruin the grass with their copious amounts of poo :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

ha! yes you was right i need to be more patient!  :D
i read it somewhere on the net it said they are prone to desease and bugs in the grass can cause them to get bugs and deseases which can be fatal. I will try and find the site again.

Well I recon given the choice they would choose the grassy option and risk the bugs ;)

All creatures will be more at risk living the natural life..... but quail are pretty resiliant things and dont suffer from all of the chickeny type diseases :)

Let them be natural and just worm them properly :)
