Thick-skinned toms.
« on: July 06, 2010, 16:56 »
Does anyone know of a cause? I am growing my toms in a greenhouse and just harvested the first red one off Vanessa - bought from Robinson's Mammoth Onion place. Nice sweet taste - not too much of a tommy taste at the moment but rather tough skins.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Not so much a cause...but some varieties do have tougher skins than others. They have been bred that way for the supermarkets :(

In the blurb for vanessa they say vine ripening and good keeping quality, a good strong skin would help with that ;)

Ah - I wondered if it varied with the variety. Thanks for that.

It could also be down to sporadic watering. :D
