split beak
« on: July 04, 2010, 07:58 »
Hi tallulah has a slight split on one side of the top part of her beak a bit like a hang nail on the finger, its not causing her any probs but I was wondering is the whole of the beak like a nail or does it have sensitive area at the base ( just in case the tear gets larger)?

Hi Sneezer  :)

Yes, chickens beaks do have a sensitive area at the base.

Our seabright, Lola, has a twisted beak and once every month we have to clip both the top bit and the bottom bit of her beak. We use dog nail clippers to do so and have to be very careful not to clip it too much because of the sensitive area.
All lives are precious.

Thanks pretty chick :)
I think i'll have a go at removing the piece which is hanging, I have some nail clippers so will be carefull, just in case she gets it caught and pulls more off!
