On my current plot peas are a nightmare.
I previously lived on a farm which was at 950ft altitude and they were no problem.

Now nearer sea level they just don't want to know.

Carrots here too. The blumming things just won't germinate in any sort of uniform order. some germinate almost straight away, then the rest of the druill doesn't bother. Then, when i'm going to chuck something else in, one or two more decide to sprout! It's so frustrating!! Agghhhhh!!!

I did say I was never trying parsnips again and then went to strip out the one that appeared in my raised bed to find a dozen more. so I carefully weeded and sowed some more seeds in the huge gaps, we will see.

Carrots terrible on the plot but they all came up in buckets in the garden

Sweeds.

The old boys on our allotments say sweeds won't grow on our soil.  I've tried to grow them for years and given up  ::)

This year.........for some reason  it is lettuce  :(  I think they have just got too dry, despite the watering I've done!

oh and the big pumpkin for the competition and, as usual, some of the cucumbers have died.

PS the swede look fantastic here, so I don't know why you have trouble Aunty

My experience changes from year to year...its like gardening menopause.

Last year it was radish and carrots...just sad.

This year its peas (three plantings so far..I am determined) and my climbing beans. The  carrots were so abusive last year I now consider them the "ex-husband" of the kitchen garden...they aren't allowed close. :(
