crop worry UPDATE
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:05 »
Hi gang
My lovely Dora has been a bit off it for the last 2 days and I have noticed this morning that her crop looks rather large and she doesn't appear to be eating a great deal. I have read up about impacted crop and it does seem that this could  be the problem. It advices to give the bird some warmed olive oil through a large syringe but doesn't say if this should be in warmed water or neat and then to kind of milk the crop whilst the bird is upside down. Effectively I suppose you make the bird sick! Is there likely to be a problem with suffocation and if so how long can you do this for before fear of suffocation becomes a problem? Really am quite worried about her.
Thanks

UPDATE
Took the lil' lady to the vets who could not find anything wrong but gave me some precautionary antibiotics just in case and she has perked up a bit. But will be keeping a close eye on her.
