Natures bounty
« on: June 23, 2010, 21:49 »
I have just been looking around our boundaries and have to say I can't believe how much there is going to be for me to use for jams, baking, brewing etc this autumn. In spite of the late spring we seem to have more than last year.

We have Elderberries, Rosehips, Damsons galore, Crabapples, Sloes and the usual glut of blackberries that our lane supplies (about 40lb last year).

Is it the same in anyone elses area.

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

Must admit last year I was eyeing up the elderberries at the country park.

It's going to be a good year for blackberries, judging by the growth and flowers......as long as we get a little rain now and again :)

I've also notice how good the blackberries are looking :)

Dont have any wild damsons that I know of but I have a tree in the orchard and theres not one damson on it.  :(So I think you should put a guard on that tree in your pics Mosslane

Hi Spana,

The tree thankfully is within our boundaries and is 1 of 4. The first year we lived here we had no damsons at all as the trees were very neglected. Last year was super and this year looks to be good so far. We had so many last year we had to give some away as I ran out of ideas of what to do with them. Wine for sure this year :D

If all the apples on our apple tree mature then we are going to be over-run, it is loaded and the branches are starting to bend with the weight.  It usually provides us with enough apple sauce for the year but this year!

Hi Tosca, I will let you know when they are ready and you are more than welcome to comeover and pick some. So many went to waste last year so you would be more than welcome.

Same here Cazzy -- it does seem a shame to pick them off

That's very kind, thank you. :)
