nesting boxes, need perches?
« on: June 11, 2010, 19:11 »
Hi al, I built my own external nesting box and followed plans I found on the internet, after looking at many nesting boxes available I add a perch in front of the nesting box.

I was very pleased that one of my 3 hens laid her 1st egg in a nesting box today, but my problem is that they also sleep on the perch outside the nesting box and foul the nice clean nesting areas.

Should I remove the perch from in front of the nesting boxes? Or do they need it there?

I would prefer it if the nesting boxes were not fouled in so much ( I understand they will get messy but if they don't need the perch there I would prefer them to sleep and poop elsewhere :)

remove that perch and put it elsewhere, this way they will only use the nest box for laying in.
Staffies are softer than you think.
