Eye problem
« on: June 04, 2010, 08:34 »
When I left my hens out this morning one of them was still in the coup and was very slow to come out.  I noticed that her eye area is pale and swollen and there is fluid streamin out of her eye.
Can anyone help me with this one?  :( Please.

sounds like she either has something in it or an infection. My mrs Poot has a bacterial infection in her eye through not perching and sleeping either standing up or laying down with her beak touching the floor. I have had to remove hemcore that has been stuck to her face in the past and the vet thinks this is how her eye got infected (possibly from pooh or similar). Pooh picking every day doesn't stop this as they pooh more at night so all it takes is just one night. She is now on anti bacterial and anti inflamitory drops to cure her. She is on Gentisone HC Ear drops which is for humans with bacterial ear infections which my vet prescribed (cost £7 + ), but she had had swabs taken and grown to find out what it was - these cost £28 ish and took about a week to cultivate. Perhaps you should get yours checked out. I now have to make sure they perch every night.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hey, my hen is on the mend.  We went to the vets clinic and got an antibiotic, which she is getting everyday, til tomorrow.  She is looking great but i've kept her in isolation until her last dose tomorrow. thanks for the help
