Veg Cutter
« on: May 30, 2010, 15:06 »
Is there a cheap machine available to cut up our stuff for chutneys ? I hated the cutting up part last yr and my wrist is aching thinking about it.

Help...
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

If you don't mind a smoother chutney you could whizz stuff in a food processor, just pulse it so it soesn't get too smooth. :)

The Chinese type stainless steel cleaver is good for cutting hard veg , swede etc. Not a machine but much better than a knife.

I have this one , http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chinese-Cleaver-Stainless-Steel-Size/dp/B002WD6M3M/ref=sr_1_4/280-6327854-0800564?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1275233158&sr=1-4

Have you looked in Lakeland?  If they don't stock it then it's not worth stocking  ::)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I use a V slicer. It slices thick and thin, makes juliene or dices. I think they are about £20 but not sure is I got mine in Germany. Just looked on ebay and there are ones on there for £10
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

Same here. I could see a lot more soups happening but probably not enough to justify the cost  :(

Hi Whisky, It is really good for slicing, makes good chips and has different size cutters for thick or thin. Dicing takes a little more effort but is still good when compared to hand cutting. I bought it because I have MS and my hands have no feeling so I was for ever cutting myself. I use it for most things even tomatoes and cucumber for salads as it cuts really fine on the thin setting.
