Oops! updated ;)
« on: May 29, 2010, 20:24 »
I was sowing a few rows of various brassicas in a seed tray, and realised at row 5 that the label marking row 2 was for a packet I hadn't even opened yet.
I think I may have simply planted a different variety of calabrese from the one I intended, but it could be PSB by mistake. How long before it might be possible to distinguish the different types? Especially the PSB from cauli, cabbage, calabrese and sprouts.

I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Hint : try writing labels and popping them in the seed packets then label and sow. Once you get into the habit problem goes away without thinking about it.

It will act as a good marker if you can't find your caulis when everything else gets growing  ;)

Woodburner:

It gets worse. While in the garden today I was fertilizing my Brocolli and discovered a Cabbage in the middle of the row!

I'm starting to think that they move around when I turn my back

I'm starting to think that they move around when I turn my back

They must!  >:(  Mrs L insists she didn't move the tomoatoes around when their pots were sitting in marked trays so why is it that the Gardener's Delight, Bambino, Shirley, Red Alert and Golden Sunrise that we planted in the greenhouse in groups are begining to look very decidedly not quite as they should..

Odd tall plants that should need side-shoots removed in with bush varieties that don't all sat sitting in the wrong places. We'll soon find out if they'ved played musical growbags when yellow ones and plum shaped fruit appear all over the shop!!

Next year (I said this last year) I really must take the time to label every pot and not let Mrs L help transport my plants around the garden  ::)  :tongue2:

Learner:

I thought I had been VERY careful labeling.

Its a possibility that the Grapevine in my greenhouse had a snit fit over all the attention being paid to the bedding plants and decided to play games with my system. That Grapevine is all about "Me, me, ME".

Time to pour myself a cocktail.  :)

Woodburner:

I'm thinking my Grapevine (and notice I feel compelled to type the word with a capital G) is something more along the line of "Seymour" from "Little Shop of Horrors".

With a nod to your signature line I'm learning that my brassicas are definitely not distinct, uniform...and nothing close to stable.

Perhaps next year I'll try the "labels in the packet" suggestion submitted above. My seeds haven't betrayed me yet.

That might explain a few confusions   but I'm not so sure.

I am also in-charge of my Dad's lean-too greenhouse and I've had no problems there despite his very prolific grape vine bursting up from one corner and trays and pots by the dozen.

Please note: Mrs Learner doesn't get to help in that one. ::)
